
MONROe school of the performing arts
Our Musical Theatre program is designed for students ages 12 to 18 who are ready to take their performance skills to the next level. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your technique, this class offers a supportive, high-energy environment to explore the many facets of musical theatre.
Each weekly session provides hands-on training in:
Class information
Classes meet on Saturday mornings for three hours, culminating in a tech and dress rehearsal on Friday, followed by two live performances the weekend after the final class. Students will perform in 2–4 musical numbers, including solo, duet, and group pieces—complete with choreography.

ABOUT TOM HINES
Tom Hines spent 23 years in Hollywood before moving his family to Monroe, MI. As an Actor he’s worked on over 10 feature films including “The Princess Diaries, “Runaway Bride” and “New Years Eve”, Television including “CSI:Miami” and “Young & The Restless” and over 10 National Commercials for Ford, Honda, Miller Lite, Walmart, Time Warner Cable, Chase Sapphire and Hilton Hotels. As a Writer, Tom worked as an on-set writer for feature films “Valentines Day” and “New Years Eve” and was Co-Writer of “Mother’s Day” starring Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis and Julia Roberts. Tom has also directed 3 feature films including “Chronic Town” and “Alleged” both available on Amazon Prime Video.

"Auditioning for Commercials"

Class 1: Class Introduction. Introduction to the Camera. Getting comfortable.
Class 2: Introduction to Commercial Auditions (slating for camera/self-auditioning)
Class 3: Audition Types (Improvising, Personality Test, Reading cue cards, Memorizing Dialogue)
Class 4: Placing actors in various commercial audition scenarios. Discuss Week 2 of workshop and how this class translates to the next.

Class 5: Commercial Audition vs. Film/TV Audition.
Class 6: Actors will be given their scenes. “First Audition”
Class 7: Actors will work on their “on camera” auditions.
Class 8: Final Auditions. See the improvement from “First” to “Final”.
